Joining us once again to discuss the results of this year’s survey is Kevan Akers from Verizon, who helps me break down some of the surprises and maybe not-so-surprising answers. And I will remind you that all our survey results and our accompanying white-paper analysis are available for free download from our site.
While I always enjoy telling specific stories about a successful venue technology deployment, one of the more interesting things we do here every year at Stadium Tech Report is our annual Stadium Connectivity Outlook survey — where we ask our community of stadium technology professionals to tell us what’s going on at their venues, what their objectives and concerns are, and what’s on their new-technology radar.

On this episode, Kevan and I discuss some of the surprising results from the survey, including the fact that a wide majority of respondents see cashierless concessions as their top initiative for 2024. Stadium Tech Report has been on top of this topic since its inception, and earlier this fall we published the industry’s most thorough look at who has installed checkout-free stands and where they are located. Listen in as Kevan gives some insights on the “why” behind the trend.
We also discussed why venue respondents told us that the biggest challenges facing venues are lowering operating costs while also increasing revenues. Kevan and I talked about how the new technology deployments have specifically helped in this regard, by reducing staffing needs in some areas and creating new revenue opportunities in others.
Another survey question about how venues might use private networking got some real-world examples from Kevan’s perspective. Verizon’s partnership with the NFL to provide coach-to-coach sideline communications, probably the highest-visibility example of private networking deployment in the stadium world, might serve as a spark for other uses, Kevan said.
